Questions & Answers

For the November 2018 Election

What is the importance of the County Board to your constituents in Champaign County?

Every citizen utilizes county services in some way everyday. Making sure that various offices, especially the Sheriff’s Office, has appropriate funding levels is important. Electing folks that are mindful of this fact is one way to ensure everyone in our county gets the help they need.

What is a key policy difference between you and your Opponent?

I am disappointed with this question. I feel you had the opportunity as the writer of this questionnaire to find issues you think are important to voters and ask us about our thoughts so that the voter can make an informed decision. Instead, you ask us to make assumptions about our opponent that may not be fully informed. I reached out to my opponent and told her I would not answer this question because it would force generalizations to be made.

The County Board is responsible for a yearly budget of nearly $130 million. How would you prioritize this money, and are there any parts of the current budget you would change?

Priority is to fund the state mandated services at levels appropriate for those offices to accomplish their goals. Second priority should be facility maintenance. If that is funded properly then it will save the taxpayer loads of money down the road. Beyond that, projects and special projects can be addressed.

Is there anything else you would like to say to an undecided voter in Champaign County?

Yes. Vote for me. I have a positive outlook for the future of our county, that includes everyone who wants to be a part of the process. Even if we may disagree on a particular issue, I want you to reach out to me and have a conversation. I will take your call or meet you for coffee. Too much in politics, people yell from the sidelines offering no meaningful input and just get frustrated with the whole process because they feel they are not heard. I know, because I am guilty of this as well. That is why I decided to run for this position. I want to be a conduit of positive and meaningful change that benefits us all.
