Elect Me

David Weisiger

County Board Candidate - District 10

Questions & Answers

You are unopposed in the upcoming Primary Election, why is it important for your constituents to still vote in the March 20th Election?

I find it very important to vote in every Primary. Regardless if your chosen candidate is opposed or not, there are many other contested races and those candidates and issues deserve every voter’s attention. It sets the stage for the General Election.

Is there a particular seat or race on the Republican Primary ballot that you think is important for your constituents to pay attention to?

I’m really interested in the County Executive position. This is a historic vote for our county and the state for that matter. We will become only the second county in Illinois to have an elected County Executive. Gordy Hulten is the right person for that position. I strongly support his campaign. I also am excited to see Erika Harold become our next Attorney General. She is an incredible person and a fantastic choice for people of Illinois.

The Champaign County Public Nursing Home and the County Board have been featured in the news heavily this past year, how do you feel about this and is there anything voters need to know?

I understand that it was a tough vote for the board to come to. It was brought to the people of the county in two different ways. First a vote to give authority to the board to sell the nursing home and second to raise taxes to support the home. Both votes were against the nursing home continuing on as a county run facility. I agree with that bipartisan decision of the board to release the RFP. The next step is for the board to vote again once they receive the bids. They will need and I believe they will get 15 votes to approve the sale.

Any other information you would like to add for undecided voters in Champaign County?

I am a 4th generation “Urbananite”, raising the 5th. Coincidentally I was raised in District 10. After a few years at Parkland I spent a decade in two of our nation’s largest cities. Though I thought I would never move back here, my wife and I ended up buying a house 2 blocks from the house my grandfather built and my father and then myself were raised in. We came back here because it is a great community filled with forward thinking and thoughtful people. This is a community where people truly care about their neighbors. I look forward to representing the residents of my district.
