For the November 2018 Election

What is the importance of the County Auditor to residents in Champaign County?

We are the overseer of the public’s money. The Auditor’s department is responsible for the disbursement of accounts payable not just for County operations, but also for the Regional Planning Commission. Verification of contracts, maintaining records of capital assets, internal and external audits, and the preparation of the County’s financial reports are also a part of our main responsibilities. It is important that we as taxpayers have an active and incisive person responsible to the citizens for the accountability of Champaign County tax dollars.

Why are you qualified to be the County Auditor?

I have over 40 years of local experience in many facets of banking and finance. I have also served 8 years on the County Board, with over 5 being spent on the finance committee as deputy chair and former chair. I believe this shows the confidence of my peers to effectively communicate my knowledge and experiences regarding the County’s finances. Being a part of management responsible for staff, budgets and upholding policies within my career have given me the tools needed to operate the Auditor’s department. I also believe being the incumbent has strengthened my experience of the internal mechanics regarding day to day details within the office.

What is a key policy difference between you and your Opponent?

Having a hands on experience within the department on a daily basis, and actively participating in County finances as a contributing board member, allows me to effectively enact efficiencies and accountability within the department. This with my management level of experiences enables alignment of Government Finance Officer Association standards.

Is there anything else you would like to say to an undecided voter in Champaign County?

I have lived, worked and raised my family in Champaign County for over 40 years. During this time I have met and helped many residents no matter if it was regarding finances or through local nonprofit organizations. Each time I have been very honest and open while trying to better my community and myself. It may be cliché to say that I am honest and trustworthy but I have dedicated myself to those qualities and am proud of what I have accomplished, and the reputation for such. I am not your typical politician, but more of a get it done worker without asking for anything in return. My door is always open and will remain so for anyone that has a question or in need of my abilities.
