Questions & Answers

For the November 2018 Election

What is the importance of the County Board to your constituents in Champaign County?

The County Board is responsible for more than $130 million of public spending annually. County government is less visible, but provides a criminal justice system, election administration, property taxation system, and a myriad of other functions.

What is a key policy difference between you and your Opponent?

County government can and should be a tool used to improve our community. To that end, I support responsible management of the County’s finances, creating a new focus on job creation and economic development, and independent redistricting to end gerrymandering and non-competitive Board elections.

The County Board is responsible for a yearly budget of nearly $130 million. How would prioritize this money, and are there any parts of the current budget you would change?

The County’s top financial priority must be its core functions mandated by state law. We need to focus on providing those services as well and efficiently as possible. Once that is accomplished, we should consider property tax relief.

Is there anything else you would like to say to an undecided voter in Champaign County?

I am a lifelong resident of Champaign County, with deep family roots and extensive community ties. My business and entrepreneurial background give me a unique perspective on how we can use county government efficiently to improve our community and make it a better place to live.
