County Board - District 1 Incumbent |
|
What is the importance of the County Board to your constituents in Champaign County? |
For the majority of my district area, the county board is the governing body for them. The rural areas rely on the county for protection (sheriff), zoning and some roads. |
What is a key policy difference between you and your Opponent? |
I believe in fiscal responsibility, smaller government and free market economies. The county needs to provide services to collect and distribute taxes, maintain documents and run elections, protection and a jail, maintain and build certain roads. The county should work with municipalities to share many other services. But the county should not be the main funding source for social services in the entire area. |
The County Board is responsible for a yearly budget of nearly $130 million. How would prioritize this money, and are there any parts of the current budget you would change? |
I prioritize those things that are required by statute. I also believe we need to take better care if the facilities we own. The county over the past 18 years has done an awful job of maintaining their facilities. |
Is there anything else you would like to say to an undecided voter in Champaign County? |
During my time on the board, I have worked hard to offer ideas to make the county more fiscally solvent through the sale of the nursing home and offer common sense fiscal solutions. My background in business has given me the experience to dig through the complicated financial budgets and reports to ask questions and offer solutions. I look forward to the opportunity to serve for 4 more years. |
