For the April 2019 Election

What is the importance of the District 3 School Board to residents of Mahomet-Seymour?

The school district is vitally important to our community. We have a long and well deserved history of excellence in our schools. The School Board sets policies and priorities for the district that help to influence the direction of the district for years to come. Making decisions that will influence our children for years to come is an enormous responsibility. Having positive committed leaders is crucial to the good decision making needed to continue the success that Mahomet-Seymour has become known for.

Why are you qualified to be on the School Board?

I have three daughters currently enrolled in the district. My wife is also a teacher in the district. These two different views allow me to see the district from a perspective that many people cannot. Additionally I have a strong educational and professional background in finance and accounting. This allows me to provide insight to the other board members and administrators on a wide range of topics related to district financial priorities.

If elected, what is something you want to accomplish on the School Board, and how long will it take?

I would like to focus on maintaining a safe learning environment for our students, preserving our sound financial position, continuing our excellent educational outcomes and continuing to improve our infrastructure and facilities. All of these goals are ongoing and continuous. Each of these goals can and will be addressed every year as there is always room to make improvement in each of these areas.

Is there anything else you would like to say to an undecided voter?

As a father I understand that every parents most important goal is for their child to go to a school environment each day that is safe, welcoming and prepares them for success after high school. That is absolutely my number one goal for my daughters. While there are multiple ways to look at issues and approaches to take, I can promise that every decision I make will draw on my education, professional experience and most importantly my strong desire to see children have as many opportunities open to them as possible. In my time on the board I have always looked at issues through the prism of a father first. Doing that makes it very easy to make decisions that are best for children.
