What is the importance of the District 3 School Board to residents of Mahomet-Seymour?

The school board has an obligation to the residents of Mahomet-Seymour to educate each student to their fullest potential. The school board should set policy that promotes an environment in which all students in the Mahomet-Seymour school district have the opportunity to flourish as they pursue their goals. This is a collaborative effort among the board, administrators, educators, students, families and the community. The school district is a reflection of the community and each student, educator, and administrator is a representative of the community. Therefore, we all have an interest in fostering the intellectual, physical, and emotional maturity of our students while ensuring their safety and overall well-being.

Why are you qualified to be on the School Board?

I was appointed to the school board in June 2018 and have spent the last 8 months listening and learning about the processes required to make our school district run efficiently. It is not an easy task. On occasion the board has to make decisions that are unpopular but necessary for the good of our students and school district. It requires patience, listening, and servant leadership. These are similar skills I have developed throughout my career in medicine. I don't do all of these things perfectly but I desire to excel in these areas as I serve the district and community on the school board.

If elected, what is something you want to accomplish on the School Board, and how long will it take?

As a sports medicine physician I am passionate about the health and well being of our students and student athletes. I would like to see more oversight and education of our coaches and athletes as it pertains to injury prevention as well as the psychological health of our student athletes. I will work with our administration and athletic department to develop an appropriate framework for oversight, educational opportunities, and analyzing injury trends.

Is there anything else you would like to say to an undecided voter?

Mahomet-Seymour school district has a stellar academic reputation and is on solid footing to grow and expand opportunities for our students in the future. I want that to continue. I am committed to serving the students and families of this district so that each student is well prepared to achieve success in the next phase of their life.
