What is the importance of the District 193 School Board to your constituents? |
The board is important to my constituents because the board is the voice of the community. Its job is to develop policies affecting children and to make sure the school is fiscally responsible. It is important for the board to listen to the community and to work with them to set goals for the school while complying with policies and regulations set by the state. |
Why are you qualified to be on the School Board? |
I am qualified to be a board member because I have been involved with helping students achieve academic goals for 10 years. I have taught at both public and private universities and a community college. I understand the challenges students face upon graduation and what academic goals need to be achieved in high school to help foster success afterwards. Whether a student chooses to enter the workforce, go to a trade school, join the military or enter college right after high school; they need to have certain skills that need to be solidified in high school. I have lived in Rantoul almost my entire life and I understand the needs of the people. |
If elected, what is something you want to accomplish on the School Board, and how long will it take? |
If elected, I would like to increase the diversity of teachers at RTHS so they more closely reflect the demographics of the community. I would also like to reduce the teacher turnover rate. With 95% of the teachers being white and 60% female, hiring even 1 or 2 Black or Hispanic teachers should be attainable within a year. It will take longer, about 5 years to significantly increase the diversity. |
Is there anything else you would like to say to an undecided voter? |
If elected to the board, I promise to keep an open line of communication between the board and community. I will do my best to make sure RTHS continues to produce students who are well prepared to be productive members of society no matter what path they choose after graduation. |
